Brain Injury defined as an alteration in brain function or other evidence of brain pathology. Brain Injury occurs as a result of severe injuries, disease, or health conditions like Acquired Brain Injury is an injury to the brain that has occurred after birth and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) caused by an external force. There are 7.7 million people in the Europe who have experienced Brain Injury and have disabilities which has a significant impact on their lives. Mainly Brain stroke, epilepsy, dementia, headache and TBI are the neurological conditions suffered in Europe.

Track 1: Neurology of Brain

The brain is the most complex part of the human body. The three Brain chemicals noradrenaline, dopamine and serotonin are involved in both bodily functions and Brain. The structural connectivity describes anatomical connections linking a set of neural elements whereas functional connectivity is generally derived from time series observations, and describes patterns of statistical dependence among neural elements. Brain connectivity is thus crucial to elucidating how neurons and neural networks process information. The goal of this session is to understand the Causes, Origin, Genesis and Source of various types of Neurological disorder of brain.

Track 3: Cerebrospinal Complications

Cerebrospinal fluid bathes the spinal cord and brain and functions as a cushion to defend these areas. Cerebrospinal fluid leaks happen through a communication between the nose and lining of the brain. These communications may happen immediately or result from prior sinonasal surgery or trauma. Complications may happen if the cause is trauma or surgery. Infections after trauma or surgery can lead to meningitis and serious complications, such as swelling of the brain. Most Cerebrospinal fluid leaks are a complication of a spinal tap or surgery.

Track 8: Clinical Management of Brain Injury

Brain injury has become the leading cause of mortality and morbidity all over the world. Every year 1,365,000 emergency department visits due to brain injury. Earlier to arrival to the ICU, patients with severe Brain Injury are normally received, stabilized and resuscitated in the operating room or emergency department. Severely brain-injured patient has been transferred to ICU, the management consists of the terms of high-quality general care and various strategies aimed at maintaining hemostasis with: Prevention of intracranial hypertension, Stabilization of the patient, Maintenance of an adequate and stable (CPP) cerebral perfusion pressure, Avoidance of systemic, secondary brain insults (SBI), Optimization of cerebral hemodynamic and oxygenation.

Track 9: Diagnosis/Assessment of Brain Injury

With mild or critical brain injury, diagnosis is usually self-evident. In the appearance of other life-threatening injuries, which is often the closed brain injury can be missed, a case with motor vehicle accidents. The focus is on lifesaving measures. The patient may be on a ventilator and serious and the evaluation for brain injury will be limited until the patient is allowed to emerge from mechanical ventilation and medications. Injury to particular areas of the brain will cause specific symptoms. For example, Injury to the cerebellum will cause loss of coordination and balance, frontal lobes injury will cause loss of higher cognitive functions, such as loss of inhibitions leading to inappropriate social behavior.  The brainstem controls things like breathing and heart rate, as well as arousal. An injury to this area could inhibit any of these processes.

Track 10: Brain Injury Biomarkers

Biomarkers present a powerful approach to studying the spectrum of neurological disease with applications in randomized clinical trials, screening, observational and analytic epidemiology, diagnosis and prognosis. Biomarkers of axonal, astroglial and neuronal damage could be practiced to diagnose brain injury. Such biomarkers could give important information for medical counseling of at-risk individuals, such as concussed athletes and military personnel. Cerebrospinal fluid markers (CFM) are preferred over peripheral blood markers, owing to their increased proximity to the brain and decreased susceptibility to the confounding impacts of various extracerebral factors

Track 11: Animal models in Brain Research

For essentially every known human disease, researchers attempt to induce alike aspects of the disease in animals to build an animal model. Animals are used as models of Brain injuries, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s spinal cord injuries, congenital blindness etc. Researchers generally use rabbits in toxicity and safety testing of medical devices, drugs and vaccines. In 2009, more than 244,000 rabbits were used in research, more than any other species covered under the Animal Welfare Act, followed next by hamsters and guinea pigs that are both used a great deal in toxicity testing and as models for cardiovascular, neurological diseases, infectious and drug abuse research.
